If you're traveling abroad and want to experience the pleasure of staying at a luxury villa in Spain, France or the United States, many of those available to tourists do not have the facilities required to accommodate guests forced to use wheelchairs. Savvy property owners are realizing this is a very underserved market and have performed some modifications to their properties in order to offer visitors to the area wheelchair accessible villas. The renovations that have been completed to offer wheelchair accessible villas will concentrate on a few choice areas.

The first area of concentration will be the entryways. Stairs will be either replaced with gradual ramps or a separate ramp will be constructed for wheelchair users. Exterior and interior doorways will also be modified to ensure they are at least 30" in width, offering enough room for a standard wheelchair to maneuver through. Accessible bathrooms and showers are another area a wheelchair accessible villa will differ from a non-accessible one. The bathroom facilities will be rather spacious, allowing a wheelchair user to maneuver themselves unencumbered as well as support bars to give them the support they need to move themselves from the chair to the toilet. Counters and sinks will be installed at a height that a wheelchair user can easily access.

A roll-in shower or a shower stall with a shower tray installed ideally will also be installed to make it much easier for the chair user to bathe on a daily basis. Other areas that may be modified would include the kitchen area that offers wheelchair accessible counters, sinks and appliances. The grounds of the villa will also have a series of paved or brick pathways that a wheelchair user can utilize to see the well kept grounds and garden areas.
