A wheelchair accessible used vehicle should have documentation proving that it has passed the local requirements of a safety test as well as the emission tests if they are required in your area. The documentation will be provided to you by the seller and should come from a reputable auto repair center that has authorization to offer the paper work required. In addition to the safety, if a lift system is installed it should be examined by an expert on this type of equipment. They will examine the condition of the platform itself as well as all weld and pivot points to ensure it is safe to use.

Additionally they will examine the electrical and hydralic portions of the lift to make sure there are no issues with those either. If the vehicle has been fitted with hand controls on the steering wheel, they should also be examined by an expert to ensure the modifications were done correctly and that all the features are working.
