Golf carts are not only used on the course as you're playing 18 holes, they are also used to transport people in a number of large venues such as hotels, airports and convention centres. Regular golf carts rely on the passengers to enter and exit the vehicle on their own and either uses the backbenches or the seats within the cart itself. Wheelchair users cannot use this style of cart without transferring out of their chair, which can be time consuming and impractical. Fortunately there are a number of manufacturers now making a wheelchair accessible golf cart that can be used at larger locations as well as the golf course.

While each style of wheelchair accessible golf cart is unique to the manufacturer, all have some common features. The first and most important is the ramp that the wheelchair user utilizes to enter and exit the cart. The most common style of ramp is a bi-fold configuration that the driver can manually unfold to allow the chair user access from the ground level. Once they are on board, the driver can easily return it to the upright position using a mounted handle. The other common feature of a wheelchair accessible golf cart is the reserved space for the chair user to sit for the duration of the ride. Carts can generally hold one or two wheelchairs and come equipped with a quick clamping system to ensure the rider's safety.

Depending on the model, additional seats can be located in the back to take able-bodied riders as well. Wheelchair accessible golf carts can hold a number of people, with the most common being a six-person cart. These carts are longer then a regular cart, adding stability. There are two seats in the front for a driver and passenger, space in the middle for up to two wheelchairs, and two additional passenger seats in the back of the cart.
